It was an honour to attend the annual Heart Research Australia fundraising event at Long Reef Golf Club on Monday, 8 August.

Keeping Company has supported this event for many years and always enters a team in the Ambros golf game, which is a lot of fun! The all-around fabulous day finished with a luncheon and unique stories of courage.

Heart Research Australia was established in 1986 by a group of Royal North Shore Hospital cardiologists to reduce the high mortality rates due to heart disease.

Heart disease is Australia’s leading single cause of death. The foundation raises funds for research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.

Advances in Research and Treatment

Heart Research Australia fund various cutting-edge research areas – prevention strategies, diagnosis methodologies and technology, and treatment types. In the 1960’s, the death rate from heart disease peaked, causing over 50% of deaths in Australia.

Thanks to the increasing advances in heart research and treatment, this rate has been steadily declining to the 33% rate it is today. But there is still much to do. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide – far more than any other disease- and the rising levels of obesity and diabetes in adults and children make the need for breakthroughs even more pressing.
